I used this book with my 13 yr old & 11 yr old boys The Secret of Our Success: How Culture Is Driving Human Evolution, Domesticating Our Species, and Making Us Smarter. When people are stunned, it plays into his exact plan of pleading insanity for an action he took deliberately after months of methodical planning. There is a bit of romance, (Kara is welcomed as royalty and so she is accompanied by a handsome, brave and personable consort as she undertakes her quest), but it is handled with a light touch and is neither stupid-swoony nor heavy-handed. I love David's books and have all of them in my personal library. And maybe I've been spoiled by "Calvin and Hobbes," which often took daring chances artistically and was never afraid to push the boundaries of what newspaper comics could do, but it feels like Bill Amend does little to nothing to try to make his comic visually appealing. All poems should just have the same formatting as prose because it doesn't change anything. It takes more murders and the unraveling of a complex web of clues to break through the wall of doubt.
